Social phobia, Really?,  2021

Recently, the term ‘social phobia’ has been mentioned a lot, and many people jokingly enjoy calling themselves social phobia. Social phobia, which started off as a word meaning a kind of mental illness, became and spread as a buzzword expressing the awkwardness felt in social activities. For example, when an unknown person enters a meeting, most people relieve the awkwardness by looking at their cell phones. The same goes for me too. This work was inspired by the repeated process of turning one’s cell phone on and off. In a one-size-fits-all, meaningless social event, I would rather become a ‘social phobia’ and enjoy my own time.



요 근래 소셜포비아라는 말이 심심찮게 언급되며, 많은 이들은 장난스레 자신이 ‘소셜포비아’라고 하는 것을 즐긴다. 소셜포비아도 일종의 정신질환에서 사교활동에서 느끼는 어색함을 표현하는 유행어처럼 번졌다. 예를 들어 모르는 사람이 모임에 들어오면, 대부분 사람들이 어색함을 풀기 위해 하는 행동이 바로 핸드폰 보기다.  물론 나도 그렇다. 본 작품은 핸드폰에 있는 앱을 켰다 끄는 행위를 반복하는 과정에서 영감을 얻었다. 천편일률적인 아무 의미 없는 친목행사에서는 차라리 ‘소셜포비아’가 되어 나만의 시간을 즐기고 싶다.


社交恐惧症的话题最近时常会被提起，很多人都爱说自己“社恐”。社恐也由一种精神疾病更多的变成了一个表达自己社交时尴尬的流行语。比如去到一个有陌生人的聚会，感到尴尬的时候人们常常会做出很多下意识的举动，其中之一就是毫无目的地刷手机。我也如此。这次的创作多从打开手机里的app又关闭的过程中获得灵感。面对千篇一律的无意义社交场合，我宁愿做一个有“社恐”的人，享受属于自己的独处时光。
