I made a lot of eyes on my
works to show people that I want to find my ‘True Self’ and ‘Honesty’.
People wear various masks to hide their real faces. However, the masks sometimes make people lose their ego, which means that due to the masks people can’t even easily answer the fundamental question such as ‘Who am I?’. Yet, there is a saying, ‘Eyes’ are the most honest part of our body. So the ‘Eyes’ may be the only and the biggest honesty that’s left for people and me. Therefore, I made a lot of eyes on my works to show people that I want to find my ‘True Self’ and ‘Honesty’.
사람들은 자신의 맨 얼굴을 감추기 위해 다양한 가면을 쓴다. 하지만 그 가면은 때로는 ‘나는 어떤 사람인가’라는 근본적인 질문에도 답을 못할 정도로 한 사람의 자아를 잃어버리게 한다. 그러나 사람의 ‘눈’은 거짓말을 못 하는 가장 솔직한 부위라고 한다. 그렇다면 사람들에게, 그리고 내게 남아있는 가장 큰 솔직함은 ‘눈’ 뿐이지 않을까. 나는 수많은 '눈'을 통해 가면이 아닌 나의 진정한 자아를, 솔직한 모습을 찾고 싶음을 표현하려 했다.
