Among the 60’s subcultures, I decided on a group of people who made a countercultural movement including racism and materialism, the hippies, as a theme for this work.
As the hippies were highly influenced by the Indian culture, they believed in the concept of reincarnation which naturally brought their attention to karma, and that led me to recreate a hippie look based on Lord Vishnu(supreme enforcer of karma). Also, I used old denim jeans, table runners, scarves and ties as my upcycling materials, and I used the macrame technique to tie the ties together for the skirt in order to give an overall ethnic hippie vibe.
60년대의 하위문화중 기성의 사회 통념, 제도, 인종차별과 물질만능주의 등의 사회적 문제에 저항한 히피족Hippies을 주제로 정했다. 히피들은 인도 문화에 많은 영향을 받은만큼 윤회 사상을 믿었고 자연스럽게 카르마(업보)에도 관심을 가지게 됐다는 점에서 카르마를 대표하는 비슈누 신을 키워드로 히피를 재해석 하는 방향으로 작업했다. 업사이클링 재료로 청바지, 테이블 러너, 스카프 그리고 넥타이를 사용했으며 마크라메 기법을 사용해서 넥타이를 이어 엮고 스카프들도 같이 연결시켜서 전체적으로 에스닉한 무드로 제작했다.
